AOTEAROA SURF FILM FESTIVAL (ASFF) ANNOUNCES OFFICIAL SELECTION AND AWARD WINNING FILMS

 

The O’Neill Aotearoa Surf Film Festival (ASFF) is proud to present the official selection and award winning films for the inaugural festival.

The Official Award Winning films for 2013 festival for outstanding work in both feature and short film categories as well as cinematography, documentary and soundtrack have finally been decided. After 2 weeks of deliberation our screening panel members Craig Levers, Andrew McAlpine and Maz Quinn worked their way through the 35 submissions to make their selection. The following films will now be showcased during the event:

 

Best Feature Film

Waverider – Karl Lear, Gareth Davies (New Zealand)

Best Short Film

Darkside Of The Lens – Mickey Smith (Ireland)

Best Cinematography

The North Canyon – Garrett McNamara, Polvo Concepts, Paulo Caldeira, Gustavo Neves (Portugal)

Best Documentary

North Of The Sun – Inge Wegge, Jorn Nyseth Ranum (Norway)

Best Soundtrack

Awards are still available for the Surfers Choice Feature and Short Film which will be decided by an online poll throughout the duration of the festival. Audience members will be able to vote on their favourite films for a peoples choice award.

“We are so stoked with the caliber of entries for the first year, the judges had their work cut out for them.” Said festival director Nick Stevenson. “All of the selected feature films have never been screened in New Zealand so we are excited to be able to bring these to NZ audiences for the first time. We are most excited about the Global premiere for our Best Feature film winner, New Zealand film “Waverider” which has yet to be released. We know that this film will have a great impact on the audience and can’t wait to share it with everyone.”

 

About the Festival

The O’Neill Aotearoa Surf Film Festival will kick off on Wednesday March 13th at Bay City Cinemas, Mount Maunganui in the sunny Bay Of Plenty. The festival will run for 3 nights in Mount Maunganui showcasing all of the official selection and award winning films. The festival will then hit the road with a selection of the award winning films for a 6-week coastal tour of the beach towns and coastal cities of New Zealand.
