I broke my neck in a diving accident at Lake Livingston in 1992 becoming a C-7 quadriplegic. This accident was life changing although it did happen in one of my favourite places…the water! I`ve felt compelled to never let this stop me from anything in life so…through the years, because I feel so connected with the water, I`ve worked in various ways with many organisations that benefit the planet`s water sources. On the surface, the ocean may look calm and serene. But beneath the surface is a different story. All around the world our oceans are in crisis. Consurfvation was born of my wish to contribute to my passion for the water. We all need clean water, it`s just that simple. Consurfvation™ is clothing that can be worn by everyone with an edge, a charitable and cool line that can be worn by young and old who want to show their concern to preserve our greatest natural resource on our planet.
Project Save Our Surf: is dedicated to the conservation of our oceans and freshwater alike, and to the preservation of marine life. We are surfers, celebrities, friends, families and businesses who use many different strategies, including educating the public and partnering with other clean water organisations, to reverse the trend of environmentally pollution, create a plastic-free world and assure that every citizen has access to clean water.
Waves 4 Water: The mission is simple – to get clean water to every single person who needs it. People living in impoverished areas die everyday from drinking dirty water. While having access to clean water is a luxury that many of us take for granted, there are millions living in nations with no filtration systems in place. Kids drink from the same streams animals bathe. In addition, there`s no clean water available for surgery if someone is injured, putting the wounded at risk of deathly infections.
LA Waterkeeper: Founded in 1993, our mission is to protect and restore Santa Monica Bay, San Pedro Bay, and adjacent waters through enforcement, fieldwork and community action. We work to achieve this goal through litigation and regulatory programs that ensure water quality protections in waterways throughout L.A. County. LA Waterkeepers Litigation & Advocacy, Marine and Water Quality teams conduct interconnected projects that serve this mission.
5 Gyres: Our vision is to witness plastic pollution decline in the environment until it is no longer found in the world`s oceans. Our mission is to conduct research and communicate about the global impact of plastic pollution in the world`s oceans and employ strategies to eliminate the accumulation of plastic pollution in the 5 subtropical gyres. To understand the impact of plastic pollution we study the 5 subtropical gyres by sailing through them. Together with our partners, Pangaea Explorations and Algalita Marine Research Foundation, we organise research expeditions, inviting scientists, journalists and other sailors to join the crew.
The Gulf of Mexico Foundation: is a non-profit organisation that was founded in 1990 by citizens concerned with the health and productivity of the Gulf of Mexico. Based in Corpus Christi, Texas, the Foundation operates several programmes to protect the fragile Gulf. These include a Habitat and Conservation Team, teacher workshops on the wetlands, GMF science and Spanish clubs for high school students and a Gulf of Mexico Summit conducted in conjunction with Mexican organisations
And when we asked Bob for any words of advice for life and work, this is what he had to say:
I`m 48 years old and I`ve had tons of obstacles in my path, I haven`t let anything stop me. DO WHAT YOU LOVE AND LOVE WHAT YOU DO, it`s a perfect formula for success.
